BLACK BIRDERS WEEK

I was interviewed by PBS Nature for their series that features individuals who participated in the 2020 @blackafinstem initiative blackbirdersweek. This series highlighted black STEM professionals, blackbirders, and naturalists. I talked about my journey breaking into the wildlife film industry, how Barack Obama's historic win inspired me to really pursue this as a career, being black in outdoor spaces, and what changes can be done in the science/wildlife filmmaking/ conservation scene to encourage more diversity and representation.

NOW MAgazine: Killing of cormorants

I was featured in a story about Ontario's proposal to hunt Double Breasted Cormorants. The Ford government wants to hunt them, citing that there are too many, depleting the fish populations and causing environmental damage. This, of course, has all been debunked by conservationists, ecologists, and biologists.

CBC Radio: Black Birders Week

In early June, I was interviewed by various outlets for CBC radio about Black Birders Week, a celebration aimed at bringing together Black birding enthusiasts. I spoke with Lawrence Nayally from the show Trail’s End about what does birding mean to me? Some challenges, and even dangers, that Black Birders face when outdoors, and what advice I would give to those who are new to birding.

Toronto Public Library Presents: Spot Wildlife in the Urban Jungle - Tips from a wildlife videographer

This past February, I did a presentation for the Toronto Public Library about tips for spotting wildlife in the Urban Jungle. I covered, what are the species, where and how to find them, and what to bring as well and answered audience questions.

I chatted with Betty Bakopoulos, host of Spotlight with Scientists in School", an original interview series that shines a spotlight on inspiring people doing great work across the country. We covered how to get to where I am, some of the wild places I've traveled, advice for kids when pursuing their passion, and a whole lot more. CHFI Morning Show Interview: Wild Boars on the Loose!

Back in November, I group of Wild Boars was on the loose in Pickering, a suburb just outside of Toronto. I got to talk to guests host Tracy Moore and Brooksy about them being invasive species and where they came from.

I chatted with Conversation Stories Canada’s Jesse Hildebrand where we discussed the diversity of wildlife within the city of Toronto. From cemetery dwelling deer to highway foxes and conservation initiatives for urban wildlife.

I had the pleasure of being part of a panel interview for Brown Sugar Talk, hosted by Amy Sylla. The Panel also included Demiesha Dennis and Judith Kasiama where we discussed the joys and challenges of exploring nature while being Black, and how green spaces can become more inclusive.

I co-produced this segment with BT Traffic Reporter Stephanie Henry. The segment covered vehicle collisions with wildlife and tips on how to avoid them on the roadways. I touched on the baby animal season, which leads to more wildlife encounters, and what times animal crossings are most likely to occur.

On world wildlife day 2021, I had a great chat with Dina Pugliese where I showcased my short video on Toronto wildlife. We also touched on the recent rise of raccoons biting and scratching people and the importance of not feeding wild animals and keeping a safe distance.

When Central Park bird watcher Christian Cooper was harassed by a woman who threatened to call the cops, a blackbirders week movement showcased black people who love and enjoy the outdoors. I was interviewed by CityNews to talk about my participation in this initiative as well as my story about my love for nature and some of the discrimination that I've faced.

For Halloween 2019, I produced and appeared on a segment for BT that dispelled the myths and negative perceptions of animals that are associated with Halloween and all things scary!

BREAKFAST TELEVISION: World Rhino Day

I co-produced this BT segment about the outstanding conservation efforts of Rhinos Without Borders. This project set out to relocate 100 rhinos from South Africa to Botswana to reduce the risk of poaching. Will they succeed?
